Lawrence Bangs

Lawrence B. Bangs is a native Vermonter who lives in the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont. He received his B.S. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Massachusetts in 1956, a Masters in Nuclear Physics form the University of Akron in 1960 and completed all but his thesis for a doctorate in Astrophysics at Rensselear Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York. He worked four years as a research physicist for the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company in Akron, Ohio. He has taught Physics at the University of Massachusetts and at Williams College. He and his wife, Joan, moved to a farm in northern Vermont (shown above) to begin educating their own children at home. Their home education program extended into Wildridge Academy as other children sought their type of education. Wildridge has operated for 25 years and produced an alumni who have excelled in academics and have mastered the joys of living. Today the Bangs continue to operate Wildridge both in Vermont and in the Chicago area.
